India’s Supreme Court has declined to legalise same-sex marriage in the country. The ruling, issued on October 17, 2023, acknowledged the rights of LGBTQ couples to choose their partners, but stopped short of doing so for same-sex unions, saying that it was a decision for India’s parliament.
