How to Grow and Care for Hellebores 💚 // Gardening On Taylor Mountain 👩🏼‍🌾

The Hellebore (also known as Lenten Rose) is a perennial you will enjoy having in your garden. It is hardy in zone 4- 9 and will start blooming for you in late winter and keep blooming until late spring.

The Hellebore likes partial shade and benefits from a good compost in late winter/early spring. This is also the time when you need to prune off all the old foliage so the plant can put all of it’s energy in to producing new growth and blooms.

The Hellebore can be a bit “fussy” in the they don’t like to be moved around in your garden space. It’s best to plant them in the spot they will stay in.

Hellebores can be started from seed however it will be several years until they will produce blooms.

The Hellebore is a semi evergreen and will go dormant during the heat of the summer. They don’t like to be overwatered or in soggy soil.

It is such a marvel to be able to have beautiful blooms when the weather is still chilly and other plants have not yet awakened!
