The incorruptible body of Saint Cuthbert

#graves #saint #explore
The incorruptible body of Saint Cuthbert is one of the most mysterious relics of the medieval period. When Cuthbert died in 687 AD, His remains were sealed in a wooden box and buried at a monastery. His Body was exhumed on August 29, 1104, from his old tomb. Monks opened the coffin lid after fasting and praying for a day.
Considering Cuthbert had been dead for 400 years, what they found was astonishing. His corpse had not decayed, reports stated it was still lifelike. It was as if the saint were not dead, but sleeping.
He was moved to Durham Cathedral where his body lies today.
