The Lake Everyone WARNED US About | Mississippi River Adventure – Day 36

Day 36 put us on Lake Pepin, one of the most feared stretches of the Mississippi River.

With its reputation for wild winds and unpredictable waves, we weren’t sure if we’d make it across or have to pull out in Lake City. But “Lady Pepin” was kind with calm water, blue skies, and bluffs that looked like West Virginia made it one of the most beautiful days on the river.

The kids searched for “rubies” in the water, Smoky cracked jokes about mutant alligators, and one of the boys bit into a habanero pepper (lesson learned).

By evening, we reached Wabasha, Minnesota. Locals at the Silver Star welcomed us with dinner and kindness, fellow paddlers shared stories, and we were reminded once again: this journey isn’t just about miles. It’s about community, resilience, and unforgettable memories.
