The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to comedian Munawar Faruqui, who was accused of making objectionable jokes on Hindu god-goddess. Faruqui was arrested in Indore on January 1, 2021, where he was doing stand up comedy at an event. He was denied bail from the session court and Madhya Pradesh High Court. After that, Munawar moved to the Supreme Court. The Court has made some important remarks while granting him bail.
Munawar Faruqui and four others were arrested on January 2 following a complaint by a BJP MLA's son that objectionable remarks about Hindu deities and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were passed during a comedy show at a cafe in Indore on New Year's Day.
