0.0.2 - Introduction: The Theoretical Framework
https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/0-0-2-introduction-the-theoretical-framework-13466987
https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/mrmediastudies1
Lesson 0.02 introduces the theoretical framework used in Media Studies. This lesson gives students a clear overview of the four key areas: media language, media representations, media audiences, and media industries.
The lesson is designed as an introduction, helping GCSE and A-level Media Studies students become familiar with the main areas of the subject before studying them in more depth. It follows an I do, we do, you do structure, with teacher explanation, guided tasks, independent practice, a low-stakes quiz, and an extension activity.
I teach using the AQA Media Studies specification, but this lesson will also be useful for students and teachers following other Media Studies courses. Students should watch with a mini whiteboard and pen, plus a notebook for key notes. You will need to pause the video in places to complete the tasks.
Teachers can download the full lesson PowerPoint from my TES shop here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/0-0-2-introduction-the-theoretical-framework-13466987. The PowerPoint includes a full teacher script in the notes section and can be customised for your own classes.
