Independent MP says her community is ‘absolutely devastated’ following Hamas attacks
Independent MP Allegra Spender says her community is “absolutely devastated” following Hamas’ attacks on Israel.
Israel declared a state of war on October 7 following a surprise attack launched from Hamas, where the Palestinian militant group fired thousands of rockets as far north as Tel Aviv and infiltrated the south of the country.
“My community is absolutely devastated,” she told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“Not least also because of the anti-Semitic chanting and behaviour last Monday night in the Sydney Opera House, but also the anti-Semitic behaviour attacks that my community has been under since those attacks in Israel but actually more over a longer period of time.
“That’s really my focus, is how to support my community right now – probably in the hardest time I think my community has faced for many, many years.”
