NDP leader Singh says anyone who votes against motions addressing systemic racism is "racist"

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh on Wednesday responded to an earlier incident where he was kicked out of the House of Commons for calling Bloc Québécois MP Alain Therrien "racist" after he disagreed with a motion to "call out systemic racism in the RCMP."

Singh pointed out the disproportionate police-related deaths of Indigenous and Black people in Canada, and said of the incident, "Why can't we do something to save people's lives?"

He said that anyone who votes against a motion against systemic racism like the one his party proposed is a "racist."

Singh had asked the House of Commons to recognize that there is systemic racism in the RCMP and to call on the government to review the force’s budget, ensure the Mounties are truly accountable and do a full review of the RCMP’s use of force.
