What If Your Pain Actually Gave You Something?

From The Restful Mind Sleepcast, Episode 17: "The Wisdom of Your Wounds" — full episode on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

As someone healing in real time on a podcast, this question changed how I see everything I've been through.
Not "why did this happen to me." Not "when will I get over it." But "what did surviving this teach me?"
This isn't toxic positivity. What happened shouldn't have happened. Full stop.
But you survived it. And in surviving it, you learned things that people who haven't been through what you've been through will never understand.

Three things this question showed me:

1. I have a radar for people's emotions that most people don't have. I walk into a room and feel the energy immediately. That came from needing to read situations to stay safe. That's not damage — that's a skill I use every single day.
2. I don't waste time on surface-level relationships. I know what real support looks like because I know what the absence of it feels like. That's not being "too much." That's having standards built from lived experience.
3. I have evidence I can survive hard things. Not because I feel strong, most days I don't. But I'm still here. And that's proof something inside me doesn't quit.

Your pain didn't define you. What you did with it did.
