Alan Powers: modernist landscape design in the state sector (chaired by Jane Findlay)
Speaking as president-elect of the Landscape Institute, Jane Findlay introduces a seminar on the landscape of state-owned industry.
Alan Powers, an eminent historian of twentieth century modernist design, spoke about the influence of landscape architects on state-owned industry. He describes Patrick Geddes as ‘the father of all this, I’m convinced’ and spoke about the work of Nan Fairbrother, Brian Hackett, Brenda Colvin, Clifford Tandy, Ian Nairn, Sylvia Crowe, Max Nicholson, Geoffrey Jellicoe, Derek Lovejoy and many others.
The lecture formed part of a FOLAR day on landscape architecture for state-owned industries. Friends of the Landscape Archive at Reading, 7th March 2020 at MERL
