In the haunting post-credit scene of Eternals (2021), Marvel teases the arrival of a new hero — the Black Knight, while hinting at the supernatural side of the MCU and foreshadowing the entrance of Blade.

The scene opens in a dimly lit room at the Natural History Museum in London, where Dane Whitman (Kit Harington) stands alone, visibly nervous. Earlier in the film, Sersi encouraged him to reconnect with his estranged family, hinting at a complicated legacy — one that now comes into sharp focus.

On a wooden table before him rests an ancient case adorned with runic markings. Dane hesitates before opening it, muttering to himself, “You can do this.” As the lid creaks open, we see what lies within: an ominous, ancient sword, its blade dark as shadow yet rippling with liquid-like motion — the Ebony Blade. Etched Latin words along the inside of the case read:

Just as his fingertips graze the blade, a calm but commanding voice echoes through the room from off-screen:

“Sure you’re ready for that, Mr. Whitman?”

Startled, Dane turns toward the unseen speaker — but the screen cuts to black before the figure appears.

Marvel later confirmed that the voice belongs to Blade (Mahershala Ali), marking his first appearance in the MCU. This brief exchange connects Dane’s destiny as the Black Knight to the world of vampires, curses, and dark magic, signaling the MCU’s move toward the supernatural and horror-inspired corner of its mythos.
