A DC Federal Court Judge, Randy Moss, gave an inexplicably lenient sentence to defendant Paul Hodgkins after he pleaded guilty to obstructing a congressional proceeding by trying to stop the certification of the presidential election results. The applicable sentencing guideline range was 15 to 21 months, yet Judge Moss sentenced Hodgkins to only 8 months in prison. What are the pros and cons to the way the Hodgkins case finished up and what is the potential impact of the lenient sentence on the more than 500 insurrection cases currently pending trial?
