Thoracoscopic (VATS) pleural biopsy and pleurodesis for pleural effusion - Dr Deepraj Bhandarkar

This video depicts thoracoscopic pleural biopsy and pleurodesis in a patient with pleural effusion performed by Dr Deepraj Bhandarkar. In patients with pleural effusion when the diagnosis is in doubt, thoracoscopy forms an excellent minimal access surgical option to inspect the pleural cavity, obtain biopsies and free up the lung if it is trapped. Instillation of a chemical agent in order to induce inflammation and fuse two layers of the pleura (pleurodesis) can be performed to ensure that the fluid does not re-accumulate.
