Bird Electrocution
Increasing the human population has resulted in rapid urbanization in different parts of the country. This consequently has led to install some of the basic requirements for the people to live in, such as transmission-lines poles, distribution-line poles, fences, building, communication towers, and high tensions lines. Poorly designed objects often have acted as threats (collision, electrocution) to big birds. Among the above mentioned man-made structured, inadequately designed transmission-lines poles and distribution-lines poles lines have been mentioned as most fatal compared to the towers and buildings. Power lines established in the ridgelines and in the agricultural areas in the rural have been found to be most lethal. They use such structure to perch in order to maintain a safer distance with the human and hunt their prey. Such man-made structure has reported killing or injured significant numbers of raptors; Golden Eagle, Bonelli’s Eagle, Eagle Owl, Harris Hawk, Black Kite, Egyptian Vulture, etc at different countries of the world. However, a study regarding the mortalities of raptors and other birds by the transmission-line poles and distribution-line poles in Nepal is yet to be studied. The rate of declination of birds by such poorly designed power lines is still unknown.
