Why Violins From The Bavarian Village Of Mittenwald Are So Expensive

The little town of Mittenwald is located in southern Bavaria on the border with Austria. Never heard of it? Then you're probably not a violinist. Musicians have been familiar with the name Mittenwald for centuries - because of the town's violin-making tradition. Only nine workshops survive, but they all produce stringed instruments of supreme quality. They sell their hand-crafted pieces to customers all over the world including Asia and the United States. We met a young violin maker who's perpetuating the tradition and leading it proudly into the future.
