Arisi Paruppu Sadam | Kongunadu style Arisi Parupu Sadam | Lunch box recipe

Arisi Paruppu Sadam is a traditional dish made with rice and lentils, a simple and comforting meal. Perfect for lunch box menu.

Ingredients:
Toor Daal -1/2 cup
Rice - 1 cup ( Use rice like Ponni or Sona masoori. )
Water-3 cups

Shallots- 10-12
Garlic-4-6
Tomatoes-2 medium sliced
Green chillies-2 -3
Curry leaves - few
Red chillies-2
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 Tsp
Red chili powder – 1 Tsp
Sambar powder-1 teaspoon
Asafoetida – A generous pinch
Oil – 1 tablespoon

Method:
Wash and soak the rice and daal for 20-30 minutes.
Heat a cooker and add oil. When the oil is hot, crackle mustard seeds and jeera.
Add shallots, and garlic.
Saute’ till shallots turn transparent. Add tomatoes, green chillies, dried chillies and curry leaves.
Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, Sambar powder, and asafoetida.
Saute’ till the raw smell goes. Add soaked and drained rice, Toor Dal.
Mix thoroughly. Add water and the required salt.
Close the lid and cook up to 3 whistles.
Serve warm with ghee and pickle.
