Simple Sentences and Disappearing Vowels - European Portuguese Pronunciation

Learn how to understand native Portuguese speakers. Which sounds can disappear in everyday speech. European Portuguese is a stressed-timed language so thre are many sounds that are "swallowed". Red represents possible suppressed syllables or letters and green represents where links in the sentence may occur. Some of these suppressions can vary depending on the speed of the speech and local accent. These videos are examples of fast, colloquial and most of the time informal speech. They are meant to be demonstrations of Algarvian Portuguese (which is the Portuguese accent in which I speak in). Please note that the resulting "linked" words in this video are not the way they would ever be written. For more information on this please watch my video on the pronunciation rules by clicking the following link:

Note: The translations are by meaning and not literal word for word translations.
