Artist Propulsion Lab: Mukbang with Junction Trio

Junction Trio of WQXR's Artist Propulsion Lab sit down for a mukbang. The the three musicians share a meal featuring Korean, Filipino, and Taiwanese cuisine, tell us how they came to be a piano trio, and reflect upon what it's like to be emerging artists in the classical music scene.

Mukbangs, also known as "eating shows," became popularized in South Korea in 2010. During a mukbang — the host, or in this case, hosts — describe the food in front of them (typically a varied and abundant spread) , comment on the flavors and the interact with their audience throughout the course of the stream, creating a virtual community.

The Junction Trio:
Jay Campbell, cello
Stefan Jackiw, violin
Conrad Tao, piano

About WQXR's Artist Propulsion Lab:

Individual creators and performers were hit hard by the 2020 pandemic shutdown. WQXR wanted to help in any way possible, and as part of its newly-announced STAR initiative, established the Artist Propulsion Lab. Six early and mid-career artists, hand-selected by the WQXR team, had the opportunity to take advantage of WQXR’s various outlets to reach audiences via Greene Space performances, on-air curation opportunities, and much, much more.
