Chasing Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 at Speed in Texas

About this video: On October 4 and 7, 2024, I chased Union Pacific’s only operative 4-8-8-4 “Big Boy” steam locomotive number 4014 leading the Heartland of America excursion train in Southeastern Texas. The 4014 operating along with many of Union Pacific’s beautiful vintage passenger cars made for an incredible sight along Texas rails on these days. The footage in this video was filmed in the towns of Magnolia, Navasota, Hearne, and College Station, Texas. Traffic on the roads made it difficult to keep up with the train as they sped down the line at the maximum authorized track speed, but I did my best to document what I was able to see while trackside and while in the passenger seat for this chase. Please excuse some of the unpleasant sounds as a result of wind hitting my camera’s microphone - I didn’t want to edit any audio out in order for the viewing experience to feel as real as possible. More videos of the UP 4014’s run through Southeastern Texas during my trip down there (which I did specifically to see this locomotive) this past early October will be coming soon, so I hope you feel inclined to stay tuned for more of my footage of this beautiful machine.
