About this video: On December 9, 2023, crowds were gathering near the tracks in Ayer for Norfolk Southern Train 11R’s power move. The Erie heritage unit was at the head end of this move, while although not being operated by the engineer (who was in the NS 6942), it still appeared to be leading this move. The 3 locomotives were brought around the wye at Ayer’s Hill Yard and reattached to their freight cars on the east side of town afterwards. This move was done in order for NS SD60E 6942, the only unit in the consist with the proper PTC (positive train control) equipment to lead 11R west. Also featured in the consist was WFRX 8912, an ex-BNSF SD70MAC. All videos of this power move were shot in Ayer, MA, besides the first clip which featured Berkshire and Eastern train “EDPO” passing through Ayer before 11R’s locomotives got moving.
