The Daily Life of a Monk (2): A Gift to the Jhoden Monastery

Firstly, we’re grateful that we are getting thousands of visits and hundreds of comments on our video recording the daily life of Tashi, the head monk of Jhoden Monastery. Thanks very much for all my audiences’ kind support and comments. (watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ID9rQd6iqiQ )

However, there is something beyond our video that we have not shared with you yet. We would like to share with you in today’s update. https://www.tibettravel.org/

In the first place, we were not planning to publish this video, because we would like to care for the monastery silently, and we also knew some people would think that the modern gift was a spoil to their simple and pure life.

However, with the development of society and human beings in all progress, all of us have the right to live better than yesterday, right?

Besides, recently, we received lots of kind people from all over the world asked if they can send us some money, and let us deliver their love and care by buying the necessary living stuff, like incense, warm clothes, etc.

We appreciate your kindness and generosity very much. Here, please kindly receive our pray and love from Tibet. Also, we would like to say that we will keep caring and helping the Jhoden Monastery without receiving your donation. If there is any chance, we hope you could come to visit them in person one day in the future and express your care and love then.

So, we guess lots of my audience want to know them better and see more about the monastery after enjoying their daily life.

So, today, we decided to publish the video about sending them a brand-new washing machine.

The Jhoden monastery is located in the mountain with more than 5,000 meters above sea level. The water they used would get very cold in winter, and it hurt to wash clothes by hand. So we thought it would be a practical gift to send an electric washing machine to help the monks wash their clothes and keep them safe from rheumatism and other ailments caused by the cold mountain water.

Tashi, the head of Jhoden monastery, was off to the village where one of the villagers died and he went to chant and pray. We taught his student how to use the washing machine.

The installation of the washing machine, which seemed to us to take a few minutes, took an hour. They were seeing a modern washing machine for the first time in their lives. See how happy they were.

Slightly off the topic: the monks in Tibet live a simple and pure life, chanting and praying, taking care of the monastery, and the stray dogs around them. They devote their energy and their lives, but they pay little attention to their own lives. So, in return, I will try my best to help and care for them for the rest of my life.
