Pandemic bill a 'power grab' to be opposed with 'everything we can'
Victorian Shadow Treasurer David Davis says the proposed pandemic management bill gives enormous power to the government – ripping it from the community – and the opposition will oppose it with "everything we can".
"They pushed it through the lower house in just two days a week or so ago; the Law Institute has criticised it, the bar Council's criticised it, 60 QCs have come out and made a number of key points," he told Sky News Australia.
"The truth is the bill gives enormous power to the government to cause these lockdowns and we will oppose it with everything we can."
Mr Davis said a group of independents in the upper house of state parliament will most likely vote for the bill as they are "very closely aligned" with the Andrews government.
"We will seek to amend it – but that won't fix it I don't think and there maybe other amendments to it, even possible the government will amend too."
