What to expect when we make your water connection

Now that you’ve laid your water pipes and agreed a planned start date for the works, you’re ready for your new connection.

Our team will arrive between 8am and 4pm – we will contact you on the day to give you an approximate time so this runs smoothly.

Our connections team usually attend in a van with a trailer on – so please allow up to 5 car lengths for the team to park and set up any necessary traffic management.

We do sometimes have challenges with parked cars in the way, so we will work with you to make sure the area is clear from obstructions.

Also, please make sure the area is free from skips and scaffolding, so we can safely carry out the work.

We will need access to fit the meter on the day of connection, so please make sure that your meter adapter is installed and ready to go.

Please let us know if you have any large deliveries planned on this date. We will work with you to make sure that we can work around this and not delay your water connection.

Your new connection will take place in a number of steps.

If the works involve digging in the road or footpath, we will agree the traffic management needed with the highways authority in advance, to make sure it is carried out as safely as possible.

Once the traffic management is set up – our connections team will carry out the excavation and connect your new supply pipe to our water main.
Your new water meter will usually be installed the same day as we make the new connections live.

We have specialist teams to do different tasks. Usually the backfilling and final reinstatement of the excavation happens within the following couple of days after the connection is made.

Don’t worry if things are left behind, we’ll come back as quickly as possible to make sure your site is left clean and tidy.

You will normally be invoiced for the work after the connection has been made.

And that’s it. All done. You’ll then have access to safe, high quality water.
