Why India Wants 5 MMT Green Hydrogen by 2030 🌍

India is betting big on the future — and the future is Green Hydrogen.
Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), India plans to produce 5 million metric tonnes of Green H₂ annually by 2030, transforming not just the energy sector but the entire geopolitical landscape.

With expected investments of ₹8 lakh crore and nearly 6 lakh new jobs, this mission aims to reduce India’s fossil fuel imports by ₹1 lakh crore, pushing true energy Atmanirbharta.

What makes Green Hydrogen special?
It’s hydrogen produced entirely from renewable sources — solar, wind, or biomass. As per India’s standard, if producing 1 kg hydrogen emits less than 2 kg CO₂e, it qualifies as Green. Clean fuel, clean future.

India is already moving fast:
• 19 companies allocated capacity for 862,000 tonnes/year of production
• 15 firms selected for 3,000 MW electrolyzer manufacturing
• Megawatt-scale plants launched at Kandla (Deendayal Port) & Tuticorin
• Hydrogen mobility pilots with 37 buses & trucks
• World's highest hydrogen mobility project in Leh (3,650 m)
• Hydrogen-based steelmaking pilots — paving the way for Green Steel exports
• 23 advanced R&D projects, ₹400 crore R&D funding, and major EU–India collaborations

If India successfully adds 125 GW of new renewable power by 2030, it could become the world’s largest Green Hydrogen producer — reshaping global energy flows.

This is not just clean energy.
This is industrial transformation, economic strategy, and climate leadership — all rolled into one massive opportunity.
