Trey Clark on Spiritual Practices
Trey Clark, Pastor at South Bay Church of God and Fuller Alumnus, recounts his blending of ancient Western and African American spiritual practices. “I love going to a monastery, when I can, out in the desert…just being on the monks’ rhythm of prayer, stepping away, being in silence…and I love to shout, too!…so sometimes I’m at home, and I’ll think of an old gospel song…a particular scripture, and I’ll just give myself space to enthusiastically have a little praise, shout, dance, or whatever I need to before the Lord, and I think that has been extremely refreshing, just to give myself permission, not to only be quiet, and still, and mediate before the Lord, but to shout and dance around…”
