Catherine Barsotti, Affiliate Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies, uses the analogy of making tamales to illustrate ways of doing theology. “I ask the students how they would teach me how to make a tamale…and then I said, ‘Ok if I do all these things am I going to make the tamale that each of you in this class – that’s you’re favorite tamale?...Why not?’

‘Well some of us are from the south of Mexico, some are central, some are from Venezuela, some are from Guatemala, and all of our tamales are a little bit different’

‘So culture is important!’”
