Sherco 300 SEF-R, 300 SE-R & 450 SEF-R review: we ride the whole range!︱Cross Training Enduro
A recent Sherco ride today let us get our hands on the 2015 Sherco 300 SEF-R, 300 SE-R & 450 SEF-R for a test ride and review. All four of us were particularly impressed with the power delivery, map switches and superb handling on tight twisty tracks. Along with the impressive Beta range of enduro bikes these Shercos will be giving KTM plenty of competition for their slice of the enduro market.
a fun day out at the recent sherco ride day. this was at the toowoomba motorcycle club so it was awesome having new tracks to ride for the day. while we've got 10s of thousands of acres to ride in, you do gradually get to know the trails quite well so its always great to have something totally new to ride. if anyone is in northern nsw or southern qld this club is worth thinking about, only $150 membership a year to ride as much as you want, whenever you want.
a few guys have been asking how the shercos compared to the ktms and betas. kind of hard to say really, generally we are spoilt for choice nowadays and i doubt you could go wrong with any of these brands. for our slow technical riding, i thought the sherco 300 four stroke could be a serious contender if you like four strokes. it's pretty much as light as the two strokes, and a very punchy engine that isn't too far off the power of the two strokes. and the steep steering angle and short wheelbase make it great for tight tracks.
the sherco 300 two stroke was also a great bike but personally i didn't feel it had any significant advantages over either the kato or beta. and oddly for not having a kick start, it's the heaviest two stroke although it doesn't feel like it. overall most comparison tests i've read tend to put the beta and ktm at the top of the pile, with the ktm suiting the hard core racer a bit better, and everyday trail hacks like us benefitting more from the beta. i'd tend to agree with that summary.
just thought i'd mention too, done about 60 rides now in the klim gear it's all built to last. in the past i've found my cheap riding gear is just about due for replacement, but the klim doesn't have a single tear or loose thread. just this hole i melted riding a trials bike with the exhaust heat shield missing doh.
