Tough alpine dirt bike climb at Grizzbait!︱Cross Training Enduro

A big challenge today, our guides say we are riding up to a glacier high in the rockies. The problem? It all depends on whether we can get up this hill covered in loose rocks... It's an easy ride up to the climb but already the rocks are messing with us. Once we break out of the treeline there are incredible views wherever we stop on the trail. Just one of the great things about.....
And here is where the climb starts. Our guide goes first, after explaining the key is momentum. Tricky when the bigger rocks keep throwing the bike sideways. Dallas is next. We expect big results from the editor of an international dirt bike magazine. We are all massively disappointed. Our guide is still up there going nowhere so now it's my turn.
Big results are expected from a dodgy international videographer, all I can say is prepare for more massive disappointment.
The moment you slow down, the rear wheel just bogs down in the loose rocks. I try leg paddling. Seat bounces. Pivot turns. Nothing works. Another run by Dallas but the rocks throw him out of line almost immediately. One of our guides again. He gets a lot more speed and momentum this time. But he loses speed each time the bike is thrown around, and by the time you are sitting on this steep section there's no hope of getting up. Oh and it's Canada Day, so the guys go all patriotic on our asses.

My second attempt. Really going for momentum this time, but almost straight away I hit larger rocks that throw the bike around too much. And I cheated this time too, I let the rear tyre pressure right down but it makes no difference at all. Loose climbs have always been a problem for me, this one is no exception. Our guide gets really good momentum this time. Great body positioning, he's letting the bike move around but keeping the power on. He's just through the steepest bit so even when he sits he manages to keep momentum. And he's made it. Then our sweep rider flies past. He was the only other rider who got up to see the glacier. He did get bogged down but eventually wrestled and pushed the bike up the last section.
So it's back down for the rest of us. As we dream of riding electric bikes. So unfortunately we didn't see any glaciers on this trip but there are more opportunities coming up. Stay tuned for more Canadian rockies adventures....
