TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT |Anatomy & Biomechanics

Detailed and Simplified lecture on Temperomandibular Joint.Temperomandibular Joint( TMJ) is formed between articulation of MANDIBULAR FOSSA of temporal bone and MANDIBULAR CONDYLES of mandible. Due to pecularities of mandibular fossa the proximal articular surface is also contributed by the ARTICULAR EMINENCE of temporal bone. There are two temporomandibular joints in either sides and infact 4 functional temporomandibular joint.
The TMJ is a condylod or hinge variety of synovial joint, infact atypical synovial joint, with a fibrocartilace in between articular surfaces. The Joint congurencrband stability is enhanced by a ARTICULAR DISC which has a great role in TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT STRUCTRE AND FUNCTION.

This video explores anatomy of TMJ with focussing on the Temporal bone, The mandibular fossa, The articular emience, The mandible and condyloid process. Further discussion proceeds on to the Articular disc, its shape, function, composition and more along with a breif discusion on condition known as TEMPOROMANDIBULAR DISC DISPLACEMENT.
