STORYLINE:
Foreign and local oil companies have been participating in Iraq’s first oil exhibition on Sunday.
The companies are showcasing their products and services at the exhibition.
The exhibition, known as the “Conference and Exhibition for Oil Projects and Licensing Rounds In the Field of Oil and Gas," aims to attract foreign investment and expertise to revive the oil industry which was damaged by wars and international sanctions.
Iraqi's oil ministry wants to increase production of oil and gas to generate more electricity in the country.
There are regular power cuts which add to people's woes.
Despite being an oil producer there are fuel shortages and increasing demand for electricity during the hot summer months.
Despite billions of dollars being spent on grid repairs since the 2003 US-led invasion, Iraqis rely on local generators for electricity during power outages.
The conference is an important gateway for oil companies seeking to expand their business in Iraq.
