OOUX Happy Hour: Running ORCA Sprints with Allie Ofisher
After getting OOUX-certified, Allie Ofisher started to bring Object-Oriented UX to client projects...but was often met with pushback about budget. Many organizations weren’t ready to invest in a lengthy month-long process.
So when Sophia shared the concept of an ORCA Sprint — going through the ORCA steps in one week — Allie knew it had a lot of potential!
After completing the first sprint with a new client, Allie and her teams quickly realized the power this process had on understanding what a system needs to do holistically, and the potential it had to help her teams scope and estimate future work.
During this Happy Hour, we will learn about applying the ORCA process in sprints to gather domain knowledge and start scoping a project from the ground up. Allie will share tips for preparing one yourself — including what went well, what mistakes she made and wants you to avoid, and resources from Notion and Miro to help you conduct your own.
About Allie
Allie is a Certified OOUX Strategist who leads UX design at Pixo, a woman-owned web and software consultancy located in Urbana, Illinois. She cultivated her creative passion and interest in human behavior by earning a B.F.A. in industrial design from the University of Illinois. Since then she’s found her sweet spot in user research, IA, and facilitation. Complex tools and custom software is her passion — the messier the better! She’s partnered with clients in higher education, manufacturing, agriculture, and government.
Currently she’s using OOUX to re-imagine how her teams gather requirements, build domain understanding, and help scope digital systems alongside stakeholders. Allie is constantly experimenting and diving into the unknown — you’ll often find her surrounded by diagrams or mapping a conversation with Post-it notes.
