Sakic started his NHL career with a 12-game point scoring streak - He amassed 32 points (16 goals, 16 assists) in his first 25 games before going down with an ankle injury - Sakic already had two hat tricks under his belt and was only kept off the score sheet 4 times in 25 games

Despite having his great scoring pace slowed by injury, he still finished the season with a respectable 62 points in 70 games (5th best on the team)

The Nordiques recognized that Joe Sakic was the future face of the franchise - he was named co-captain two years after his NHL debut

The future Hall of Famer wore #88 in his first season with the Quebec Nordiques
