Richer returns to the Habs (1996)

After a 5-year absence, Stephane Richer returns to the Montreal Canadiens - He was acquired from the Devils for Lyle Odelein

As fate would have it, the Habs faced the New Jersey Devils in the first round of the playoffs that season. In an embarrassing turn of events, Richer was held scoreless while Odelein scored 2 goals and added 2 assists for 4 points in a 5-game series victory for the Devils.

Stephane Richer's second stint with the Habs was short-lived: he played 77 games in a season-and-a-half, totalling 27 goals+28 assists = 55 points

Losing Odelein for Richer ended up being yet another one of Rejean Houle's ill-conceived moves during his disastrous tenure as GM: Richer was traded to Tampa along with Darcy Tucker and David Wilkie for Patrick Poulin, Igor Ulanov, and Mick Vukota in January 1998
