1st Day of Classes On a Ship

I still cannot believe that the ocean is my classroom and that my “weekends” are spent in different countries on different continents. My younger self wouldn’t believe me I told her you are living the real-life version of Suite Life on Deck. There is something unique to being in a class, where the ship is rocking and you look out the window to see the ocean. It has been officially a month since I started classes, and I can only say that it has been the best month of my life. Classes have gotten so interesting now that we are not at the beginning, I have gotten into a groove while on the ship. By starting the morning with breakfast and then work out with my friends (which has become one of my favorite times of the day). To then head to Global Studies and sit in the same spot with all my friends. I then have some breaks in between classes that I take either to do some homework, read (which has become one of my favorite alone time activities), or play some volleyball with my friends. Then by the end of the day, my goal is to have homework done by dinner, so I can have the night to play board games or children's games with my friends (this is definitely the highlight of my day and the blessing of not having wifi). Time here on the ship has become so valuable, that I am constantly doing something to not waste any time, which has already flown by. It's definitely a lot to always be on the go, either on the ship or in the country, where we technically don’t have any day off. But I will never take this for granted and wouldn’t change it for the world.

As this is one of the best experiences of my life, and time is passing by so quickly, something that has let me really to enjoy the present and be completely happy every day is by practicing gratitude. So I challenge you guys to include gratitude practice in your daily life. The easiest way of getting started is to write 3 things that you were grateful for today at the end of each day. This will help you to be mindful and even on the worst days, you can remember the good parts. As you get used to being mindful of the small pleasures in life, start taking mental pictures of good things that you want to remember. Use the grounding technique: Acknowledge 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste. Implement these practices you will start noticing a difference in the way you perceive life and will see your mental health improving.
