Two of the biggest mistakes that I see anglers making when loading and transporting their paddle craft in the back of a truck are:
1) Strapping the kayak or paddle board down too tight to the truck
2) Strapping the kayak or paddle board down to a hard surface
If you want to be able to fish out of a kayak or paddleboard for a long time, you've got to take care of your paddle craft while transporting it.
Here's the deal, plastics and fiberglass (what most kayaks and paddleboards of made of) don't get along well with hard surfaces for very long (like the hard steel of a pickup truck).
So don't ever strap your paddle craft directly to the back of the truck and certainly don't strap it down so hard that it damages the board or kayak. I've seen some anglers strap the kayak down so tight that it leaves an indention in the hull of the kayak. Not good.
The best thing I've found to keep your kayak or paddleboard safe while in transport is to get a truck bed extender along with some support that goes in the bed of the truck,
Watch how I've set mine up in the video.
