GSMT - Thomas Donahue: Master Restorer, Modeling Artisan and Sculptor - Artisan Lecture

Thomas Donahue is a classically trained artist who began his formal studies under the auspices of an Excellency Scholarship from New York’s prestigious Pratt Institute. Trained under the formality of the Atelier System, he exercises his talents throughout a spectrum of three-dimensional disciplines – from canvas to bronze sculpture to architectural designs. Early collaborations with the highly regarded Hoheb Studios have realized works of arts for a renowned roster of artists including Willem De Kooning and Jasper Johns.

Mr. Donahue’s particular interest is in historic preservation and architectural design. For thirty-four years he has been a source for interior designers and called upon by prominent museums, auction houses and galleries for his expertise. He curates a vast collection of early 19th Century plaster molds and under his direction restorations of historic interiors have been carefully researched and impeccable executed. His studio has been featured in House Beautiful, Elle Décor, Martha Stewart and many other publications.

He has had a diverse group of creative commissions including participating in the American Team entrusted to the restoration of the Statue of Liberty’s face. He was also commissioned by Tiffany to design four Holiday seasons of windows for its Fifth Avenue flagship. Recently, as a private commission, he executed a 16 foot allegorical figure in stone and bronze in Michigan.
