Kashmir's rich history is filled with major developments in our Vedic heritage and the rise of our learned traditions. It is especially important as the home of Shaivism. It was a major site for Buddhism's development and export. All this started to crumble during and after Kota Rani, the Hindu last queen of Kashmir. Muslims who had been welcomed centuries earlier and had lived in harmony with Hindus. But suddenly things changed, society disintegrated and eventually went out of control. The plight of Kashmiri Pandits becomes vivid in this context. Rakesh Kaul has compiled a courageous history which every serious individual must learn.
