Discussion on Section 59 interim report into allegations of racial discrimination by medical aids

The National Health Care Professionals Association (NHCPA) has welcomed the section 59 interim report into allegations of racial discrimination against Black, Indian and Coloured medical practitioners.
The interim report - released yesterday by a panel of three advocates led by Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi - found major medical schemes which are Discovery, MedScheme and the Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS) committed unfair racial discrimination against some health care providers.
The matter gained traction in 2019 when the NHCPA among others reported unfair treatment on behalf of its members to the Council of Medical Schemes - which subsequently appointed the investigative panel.
Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi chaired that panel, he joins us now via zoom.
