New Zealand and Pakistan have played each other more regularly in bilaterals than any other teams in recent times. Both teams were involved in a Tri-Series in Pakistan, followed by the ICC Champions Trophy. The former finished as runners-up, losing to India in the final, while the latter failed to win a single game, despite being the host.

Now, with just around a month to go for the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the Men in Green have arrived in New Zealand for a white-ball tour, involving 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs. Both sides will kickstart the tour with the shortest format, with the first T20I taking place straight after the completion of the second T20I between White Ferns (New Zealand Women) and Sri Lanka Women at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, on Sunday (March 16).

Michael Bracewell is the new captain for the T20Is, with regular captain Mitchell Santner not available. Santner (Mumbai Indians), along with Glenn Phillips (Gujarat Titans), Lockie Ferguson (Punjab Kings), Devon Conway (Chennai Super Kings), Rachin Ravindra (Chennai Super Kings) and Bevon-John Jacobs (Mumbai Indians) won't take part in this series due to the Indian Premier League (IPL) commitments.

The senior pro and ice-man Kane Williamson has also opted out of the series, although he went unsold in the IPL auction.

New Zealand last played a T20I series at home against Sri Lanka earlier in the year. Only three players from that squad - wicketkeeper-batter Mitchell Hay, opener Tim Robinson and pacer Zak Foulkes - have been named in the T20I squad, with Foulkes being available for the 4th and 5th T20Is.

The Kiwis will be sweating over Matt Henry's fitness. The Canterbury seamer missed the CT 2025 final due to a sore right shoulder. He is still recovering and New Zealand will hope the right-arm speedster will be ready for the final two matches.

Foulkes and Henry will replace fellow pacers Kyle Jamieson and Will O'Rourke, who are in the squad only for the first three T20Is.

Experienced batter Daryl Mitchell and fast-bowler Jacob Duffy are the other two players after Jamieson, O'Rourke, Chapman, Bracewell and Henry, who have played in the recently concluded ICC event, to be part of this series.

Tim Seifert, Finn Allen, Jimmy Neesham, Ben Sears, who has recovered from a hamstring injury, and Ish Sodhi have also returned to the T20I set-up.

On the other hand, Pakistan
