Hey kids! Its your good buddy, Uncle Ben, here with another deep dive Van Halen breakdown on Weekend Wankshop 249!
Jamie's Cryin' is one of my favorite songs from the legendary Van Halen 1 album, but the online tabs miss everything that makes this song sound so great! So in this lesson, i'm going to show you all the real way Eddie played those awesome licks, chords (including that highly-debated mystery chord he plays in the verse and chorus riffs), dyads, and triads that make his guitar part so cool.
I'll be tuned down a half step for this video (although we will talk some about the tuning, too), and we're gonna cover tone, technique, and tricks so get you playing this song right TODAY!
I'm using my early 90's Ibanez RG550 with Fishman Fluence Classic pickups (voice 1) into my Fractal Axe FX III using a slightly tweaked version of the Brown Sound preset that comes on there. I added some more reverb, slowed down the flanger, and added a little high end to the amp. Sounds great!
