MagicMtn Dance: Farewell Pacific Beach Studio
Someone tell me... Something Comforting.
I recorded this back in March. Right before, I had an extraordinarily productive, fun, and fulfilling week. I was a few weeks into Landmark's Team, Management, and Leadership Program, and that had me really on top of things. At Carets, we were making great progress on all the exciting new products we're developing. This dance, to the new Porter Robinson track "Something Comforting", was a celebration of that. I was grateful to finally take advantage of this sick little studio space I created, before we moved in a few days.
I recorded this back in March. Right after, the world went into lockdown. I was a few weeks out of Landmark's Team, Management, and Leadership Program, as everything was shut down. I was the least on top of things I'd ever been. Sometimes I couldn't even get myself to dance and exercise, and those have always been my happy places. At Carets, all of our suppliers went into lockdown, except for the one that stayed open and devolved into chaos. At its worst, revenue shrank to 4%. We were about to go BROKE. People were saying, on the bright side, that this lockdown will be great for creative output. I HATED that. I could not stop worrying. And every time I tried to work on this video, some technical difficulty would stop me. This dance, to the Porter Robinson track "Something Comforting", I started seeing it as ironically mocking me. Now living in the suburbs, I regretted squandering the studio space's potential for creative output, and my proximity to the beach.
I recorded this back in March. Since then, our part of the world is going into lockdown, with hospitalizations worse than the first. I'm a few weeks withdrawn from Landmark's Team, Management, and Leadership Program. It's an amazing program, just too intense for me right now. I've enjoyed finding a groove and making meaningful progress in physical and artistic crafts. My new faves are dynamic stretches (yay for head kicks! and what a great way to shake off the morning muscle stiffness) and editing videos again. At Carets, we had many hard talks, hard thinking, hard decisions, and hard work, so that our business could stabilize. And now we are excited about our plan forward, with many more game-changing new products. Now living in the suburbs, I'm grateful for the space, which I desperately needed for Carets this year.
Thank you everyone who told me something comforting this year. I definitely needed it.
