This is some rare collection of pictures taken during retrieving the control of two vessels which were kidnapped by Somalian Pirates. Those pirates were consequently retrieved by the coalition forces and the private arm guards, Russian Naval forces deployed at the Gulf of Aden. Once during the peak time of piracy incidents at Somalian water or Gulf of Aden Somalian pirates were hugely active until the end of Arabian sea where kidnapped many cargo ships and Tankers big and small. Nearly 5-7 years back these two ships, cargo ship CEC Future and Tanker Moscow University was kidnapped by the Somalian pirates and retrieved back by the quick and commando action various forces from the kidnappers. But we don't really know how that business really works: Who hires the crew, buys the rocket-propelled grenades and organizes the ransom. And most importantly, who divides the loot. In a fascinating BBC special that airs today, the BBC's Rob Walker follows the money for an inside look at how Somali "investors" organized the attack on the CEC Future, a Danish-owned cargo ship that was hijacked last year. And he gains exclusive insights into how shipping firm Clipper Projects negotiated with pirates and transferred the cash in exchange for the crew's release. Most crucially, Walker tracks down "Mr Ali," the man recruited by pirates as a negotiator because of his fluent English. Walker meets him in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, and Mr. Ali -- real name is Ali Mohamed Ali -- explains the division of labor and how much it costs to buy ammunition, food and fuel. Investors usually expect to bankroll several missions before getting a return on their investment. It can cost up to $6,000 to fund a single pirate expedition, but the ransoms can be substantial: In the case of the CEC Future, the pirates netted between $1 million and $2 million. The most dangerous part, however, happens when the ransom arrives, dropped by parachute in a watertight container: Local merchants in the port of Eyl, who had been providing supplies to the crew on credit, also expected to be paid. Moscow University

The Russian tanker MV Moscow University (Russian: Московский университет, romanized: Moskovskiy Universitet) was attacked on 5 May 2010 by Somali pirates 500 nautical miles (930 km) off the coast of Somalia. The ship fired water cannons and flare pistols at the pirates, and attempted to outmaneuver them, but its constant maneuvers forced it to a speed of nine knots after one hour, after which the pirates attached an assault ladder and began boarding.[1] The captain then ordered that all food and water be hidden in the steering compartment, and activated the ship's distress beacon, after which he and the crew barricaded themselves in the engine room, where they repulsed two attempts by the pirates to force their way in. The pirates would hold the ship for 20 hours.[2] Rescue Russian destroyer Marshal Shaposhnikov A Royal Australian Air Force AP-3C Orion responded to the MV Moscow University distress signal on the 5 May, and was able to locate the tanker, dead in the water, with three small skiffs alongside - indicating a Somali pirate hijacking. Communications were established between the ship's captain and the Australian Orion aircraft which then relayed communications to the Russian Udaloy-class destroyer Marshal Shaposhnikov. Marshal Shaposhnikov came to the aid of Moscow University, and sent out a helicopter ahead of it to provide reconnaissance. It took the destroyer half a day to reach Moscow University. Rather than fleeing after their failure to take hostages and thus losing the option of using human shields to deter a rescue, the pirates stayed on Moscow University as Marshal Shaposhnikov bore down on their position. The pirates fired at the reconnaissance helicopter, and the helicopter returned fire, killing one pirate. The captain confirmed to the Russian forces by radio that the crew were safe. Two warning shots were fired at the pirates, who then claimed that they had hostages. Marshal Shaposhnikov then opened fire on Moscow University. Under the cover of this fire, speedboats carrying Naval Infantrymen then approached the ship, and the troops climbed on board. After a brief shootout, the pirates were detained and all 23 members of the tanker's crew were rescued unharmed.
