Mario Lanza - Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly

Mario's beautiful voice along with photos of him and lovely Victorian pictures are combined to wish you all a Joyous Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The song, " 'Deck the Halls' or 'Deck the Hall' (which is the original title) is a traditional Christmas, yuletide, and New Years' carol. The melody is Welsh dating back to the sixteenth century, and belongs to a winter carol, Nos Galan.
The English lyrics first appeared (still called Nos Gallan) in volume 2 of Welsh Melodies, a set of four volumes authored by John Thomas with Welsh words by John Jones (Talhaiarn) and English words by the Scottish musician Thomas Oliphant, although the repeated "fa la la" goes back to the original Welsh Nos Galan and may originate from medieval ballads." (The above quote is from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deck_the_Halls)

The photographs of Mario Lanza are from his wonderful film The Great Caruso. This film and his other ones are available for purchase from Turner Classic Movies.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to identify the names of the artists of the Victorian pictures which I have used here. My apologies. However, I did find some information about the Christmas card that wishes a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Evidently, it is thought to be the first Christmas card when Sir Henry Cole had an artist draw a card in order to send it out to his friends, family, and business associates in 1843.
