What Happened to RFK Stadium? ABANDONED?

Update: Despite Washington DC being the city I have visited most in my life, the pronunciation of Potomac completely slipped my mind. I also failed to notice that the photo of JFK stadium was incorrect, which is now blurred to prevent more comments.

RFK Stadium sits less than 2 miles from the US Capitol Building and in line with the National Mall. RFK is currently abandoned and awaits demolition in 2022. The stadium originally was meant to be much more than a football stadium, and serve as a venue for all of America, with several potential themes including a monument to Theodore Roosevelt and memorial to veterans of the World Wars. The stadium was also intended to be the center stage for the Olympic games and main site for presidential inaugurations. The Lincoln Memorial and the stadium were designed to be bookend monuments on the mall, but by the time the idea for a stadium met reality, the idea of extending the National Mall had died and the stadium was watered down to just being the main site for Redskin’s and Senators baseball, and the many other sports teams who used the facility over its life including DC United and the Washington Nationals. With the Washington Football team unsatisfied with their current stadium in Maryland, its very possible that a new stadium could be built to replace RFK but would likely still lack the grandeur and prestige of a national stadium. Join me in this video where we go over the complete story of RFK stadium from inception to announced demolition.
