Daryl Hall and John Oates were one of the reasons why the 80s were so incredible/ In my opinion, they are the greatest Duo in the history of the Rock Era. There is no doubt in my mind that You Make My Dreams is pop perfection. No hyperbole, no BS it’s the personification of absolute bliss. It’s true, once you hear “You Make My Dreams” you’ll never be the same- knocked into a state of rapture from Daryl Hall’s vocal hypnotism. It’s so infectious and joyful you don’t want to come out of the trance.
The addicting ‘get on your feet’ old-time gospel melody spins you around and around, and the 'feel good' icing on the cake is the incomparable Hall & Oates doo wop harmonies that sweeten up the song’s happy chorus.
Every now and again, a pop song is released that metaphorically speaking: parts the red sea. It’s a head turner. like that Meme that has been done a million times where the guy is with a woman and is turning his head and checking out another woman walking by. Except the song he is with is current pop music and the song he’s turning his gaze to is You Make My Dreams by Daryl Hall and John Oates.

This happened in 1981 and it’s happened about a hundred times since with the coming generations who are discovering this timeless pop classic. Whether discovering the song through the Wedding Singer or 500 Days of Summer, the result is the same. Let’s be honest this has happened with quite a few songs from the 80s. There’s just a magic in this music from that golden era that transcends all time and space.

Let’s be clear Few can deliver a vocal with the conviction and power of Daryl Hall. Describing his singing style as ‘blue-eyed soul’ is an insult. Daryl Hall is simply the best maestro of converting rock & soul into one magical performance.

What Daryl Hall and John Oates do and have always done with the their approach to creating and performing their music is deepen our soul’s craving and appreciation for music.
But, It goes even deeper than that. Their undying commitment to quality in production and songcraft, their inspiring resolve to capture audio euphoria with a soul stirring emotional connection that they seem to marinate their lyrics and harmonies in.

You make My Dreams is the backbone of everything i’ve just stated. It’s a song that so many decades later still sounds as inspired, truly joyous and exilerating as the day you first heard it. "You Make My Dreams” is the duo’s joyous declaration of finding a grander love that changes one’s very existence.. forever.

I remember my dad was telling me how Hall and oates were the greatest duo in history. I said Dad what’s a Duo. He explained that a duo was two people, a pair. I said oh ya like Burt and Ernie and he said exactly. I remember saying well Burt and Ernie are my favorite duo, and he said maybe right now they are but wait until you hear this next song, you might change your mind. and he played me Kiss is on my List.

The thing is, He was right, once I’d heard that and Rich Girl and She’s Gone and Sara Smile, Daryl Hall and Jon Oates had officially surpassed Bert and Ernie for good. When I heard You Make My Dreams Come True I was knocked across the room. It was such a barrage of positivity I wasn’t sure what I was hearing, that rocking beginning synth, the rush of the falsetto. It was truly eye opening and ear soothing for a child.
