Stegosaurs: A History of Spikes and Plates
Stegosaurs were a lineage of armoured Thyreophoran Dinosaurs that thrived during the Jurassic Period. Possessing small narrow skulls, leaf shaped teeth and plated osteoderms running along their backs, these distinctive herbivores dwelt in Eurasia, North America and Africa. They were slow moving animals that used their spiked thagomizers to drive away predators. The group died out during the Early Cretaceous, likely due to a reduction in cycad plant diversity at this time.
