A perfect match discovered by the x/render96 community #artshorts

In the 90s (the Nintendo64 era), developers didn't have the power to paint every blade of grass or stone by hand, and cartridge memory was extremely limited. They used professional photo libraries like VisualDisk.
They took real-world photos of skies, rocks, and trees, then blurred and cropped them to work within the N64’s technical limits. Recently, researchers from the Render96 project discovered the original high-res source images for these iconic environments.
It turns out, the "fantasy" worlds we loved were actually fragments of our own reality, hidden behind a few layers of pixels.
