IG Vid Prep: Bartok Romanian Folk Dances Explained | Joseph Conyers, Double bass

Written in 1915 as a piano suite consisting of six short movements, the Romanian Folk Dances was arranged by Bartok in 1917 for chamber ensemble.
It has also been arranged for string orchestra, but we played the chamber orchestra version with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Due to the pandemic and distancing guidelines, we have been playing mostly all pieces for strings or small chamber orchestra.
Each movement is based on a different Transylvanian tune. The fourth movement, titled “Dance from Bucsum,” is incredibly lush and beautiful, and the tune is ideal for belting out, which is why I chose it for one of my Instagram posts.
