Baby elephant, Khanyisa Gets a New Scale Donated by Izindlovu Fund!

Khanyisa weighs in at 322 kilograms!

Our very kind partners and friends, Ben and Helen at Izindlovu Fund, a Belgian non-profit organisation, donated a much-needed new item to the nursery recently! ...An elephant-size industrial scale fit for a growing calf, from Scaletec (a supplier of laboratory, commercial and industrial weighing scales in South Africa).

Khanyisa has completely outgrown her previous scale so this donation could not come at a better time. We are so grateful to Izindlovu for all the incredible support, assistance and generosity they have given to HERD and the orphans, and their support to us, the human herd!

It is so comforting and motivating to know that we are in this together, working hand-in-hand to help rescue, rehabilitate and integrate displaced and orphaned elephants.

"Khanyisa will take some time to get used to the new scale and was a bit weary of it at first, but it truly works amazingly and is so much bigger - as a result we have dedicated one of the nurseries to being the weigh-in room," Adine says!

On this morning, Khanyisa was accompanied on her weigh-in by her carers, Reply and Khensani, together with Adine. We were so thrilled to see her weight continuing to rise!
