Aviation Industry Networking - No One Succeeds Alone
Aviation Industry Networking - No One Succeeds Alone
I’m Paula Williams with ABCI, and I wanted to share an insight that probably should be obvious but it’s not.
We were all brought up to be independent, and to do our own work, and focus on our own business.
If we were educated in the United States, like I was, there was a lot of focus on competition. If we had group projects, they were usually dreaded and terrible because we didn’t know how to work together so nobody would lead, follow or get out of the way.
Somebody would end up doing ALL of the work for the group, and EVERYBODY would get the credit or the blame for that work.
But the people that are truly successful in the world are those that learn how to collaborate.
Team Partners/Colleagues
Clients and Customers
Industry as a whole.
It’s been awhile since I bragged about my team, Abdul, Ali, Adeela, Shannon, Stella, and both Johns are amazing and we wouldn’t be where we are without them.
Our clients are also amazing. I learn from them every single day - I learn about the industry, and we truly enjoy collaborating and challenging each other to get the best possible results.
The industry as a whole is important because we all know that the storms affect us all. When one activist vandalizes an airplane in England by spraying paint on it because of some misguided notion that they’re saving the planet by attacking OUR industry, we are ALL attacked. We haven’t been telling our story well enough, we haven’t been involved with our communities enough.
My son has been reading Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations and we’ve had a bunch of great conversations about stoicism lately. One of the fundamental tenets is that each individual has a duty to serve their community and work for the greater good.
We in aviation can’t sit at our desks and do our work and expect the rest of the world to take care of themselves. We have a duty to seek and build relationships with our team and our colleagues, our clients and customers, and the industry as a whole.
